so i have been contemplating this purchase for a few months now and finally a friend of mine, scott, talked me into it. i was mainly worried about it because it was getting rave reviews on the netz by people and sometimes this happens only ending up in myself getting said product and finding out it sux. anywho, off topic, so to sum it all up, this thing freaking rocks. it’s a nice compact size and the suction cup that comes with it is extremely strong and had no problem keeping it attached to any place i put it on my car. (i actually used the suction cup to remove a dent from my car too, double score.)
the camera records in 1080p, 720p, and 480 in multiple frame rates, so you can get some coveted slow motion shots! it comes with a plethora of adaptors so you can pretty much put it onto anything and i know some people were upset that you couldn’t mount it without the waterproof housing, but i see this as extra protection for the lens. it records everything in the h264 codec, rock on, and saves it on an SD card, which finally gives me a reason to use the SD slot on my macbook pro. one of the main problems i can see and have had with it is there is no built in monitor so you can preview what you are recording. you basically have to estimate your shot and hope that you have it. i have seen there is an external monitor you can purchase to use with it, but i have not yet purchased it. for a full list of the specs and some of the companies videos visit their site HD Motorsport
here’s a quick sample vid i made up over the weekend. i didn’t try to fix any coloring or stabilization in post because i wanted you to be able to see the video that comes straight out of the camera.
if you are into any type of action sports i suggest you log on and buy one of these now. the little guy really is amazing.
prost netz!
Hey, how are you liking yours? I had an SD I used for a lot of autox/racing and just recently upgraded to the HD. Curious what sort of after effects you’re using on the camera? I also notice you, like me, are a time lapse junkie. The GoPro HD can do lapses in 2, 5, 10, or 30 sec (I think) intervals, and with that huge wide-angle lens, I’m sure you can think of some interesting lapses. Speaking of which, check out http://www.camarush.com — they sell a little device that you mount the gopro on and it rotates 360° in 1 hour so you can “pan” your time lapse shots. It’s not adjustable but it is only $20, so…

I am loving my GoPro! I have used it for tons of things so far and am always surprised at the video that it makes. As for effects, on most of my vids i just do a little color correction and maybe ad a vignette, but other then that not much. the subaru video i did on the mining roads i did use an after effects plugin called twitch for the transitions, but other then that, it’s just CC’d and vignetted.
